The advantage of the capacitor board is that you are not limited to capacitor physical size and if you like you can use higher voltage and/or higher capacitance if you like.

^ I'm also curious about your project. I'm the second owner of a MA5100 and it looks in great shape and fairly unmolested. The PO had it stored in a closet for 10+ years. I sent it to one of the local McIntosh service centers but I wasn't impressed with the job but the unit was working so I just kept using it sporadically. Yesterday, it decide to stop sending sound to one of the speakers so I'm considering doing a full service myself. I'd love to read the rest of your story with your 5100.

Have you cleaned the controls recently with Faderlube / DeOxit? Oxidation on a switch contact would be enough to stop signal.

I did about 3 years ago but I believe only to the volume and input selector. I may try that again.

cardoctordav, I just looked at the pictures of that cool circuit board you made for your capacitors in your MA5100. I want to do that to mine! If I may ask, where did you get this circuit board and capacitors from, and which microfarads & voltage specs of capacitors did you buy?

I’m restuffing the muti cap c306, on ma-5100. I tied the two capacitors 200uf and 500uf negative leads together. The black wire which appears to be coming from 22k resistor was originally attached to com pos on the multi cap. This wire, where do install it on the ground of the capacitors or the pos?
