Need a nice place to stay in Maine, hopefully on the water and not to far from Bangor so I can see Thor.

Thatch are you driving? If so drive up the coast of Maine Rt 1, you will find tons of beautiful, B&B's hotels, motels, cabins etc. I have stayed here http://www.bnbcity.com/inns/20015/ and it was really nice. You will see lots of really pretty coastline, see tons of neat shops and antique stores ect. and go through some really cool towns like Camden ect. if you go Rt. 1, takes longer than the interstate but is well worth it. Don't forget to stop in Freeport too cuz L.L. Bean and tons of other outlets are there and everyone should see L.L. Bean at least once. You will also want to see Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Just remember anywhere near the coast you plan on staying at you want to make reservations, tough to find lodging this time of year if you just hope to find a no vacancy. If you manage to get up this way before the 3rd you can see the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland http://www.mainelobsterfestival.com/ There are also several museums and such you will pass on Rt. 1. If you go Rt. 1 all the way to Bar Harbor you will cross the Waldo Hancock Bridge, this bridge is the only crossing of the penobscot below Bangor and I grew up on one side of it, Verona Island. I mention this because it is like a small version of the Golden Gate and they were trying to fix and restore it but have now decided they are going to demolish it and build a new one :( Also if you go that way you can see Fort Knox http://www.state.me.us/cgi-bin/doc/parks/find_one_name.pl?park_id=37 a really cool place, I grew up near it and we used to sneak in at night and play hide n seek in there, pretty creepy let me tell ya. Well that's all I can think of right now, me tired ;)

We stayed at a motel called the Starlight if my memory is still working, it was up the road inland from Bar Harbour, but not all that far. Got a real nice cupola and copper weathervane for the garage roof on that trip. Told the folks when we were due to be back home and it arrived the next day. We have seriously thought of moving to Maine when I retire. Then again, as a former Canadian (actually still am) New Brunswick is not out of the question either.
