Malicious Attacks from AK ads!

You are being made a scapegoat for some other issue within your network.

All I know is what I was told. I told him what you said and he is willing to discuss if you want. I have seen his credentials and I don’t want to argue with him. In fact, I don’t want to argue with anyone. I’m only concerned there may be an issue and until we know what happened, I would think our forum admins would want to find out too.

Admins are obviously on the case and thanks for posting.

Slightly off topic: IT at my very large organization will send fake suspicious emails to see if they can catch you doing dumb things like clicking on a suspicious link. If you do it takes you to a page that tells you to be more careful. I almost always catch them because they also make us do really boring stupid online cyber security training sessions every month. We hate them but they do keep it fresh in our minds.

Actually no I don't want to talk to him as its not my job to tell other people how to do their job. Heck he could even be right but the logic lacks.

No keystroke logger will install while being so blatant as these ads are.

You got it somewhere else and honestly if I was that "IT Professional" I would be wondering how a keystroke logger evaded anti-virus programs and filters that should be in place.

Are you still browsing this forum ?? I mean its a total danger in your mind. One would think you would avoid it.

EDIT:: I put some hints here if your IT guy wants to look.

The IT group in my organization is well known for doing this. I don't mind as it helps to keep me on my toes.

I recently came across some good info from my IT group:
What some describe as a key logger program could also be cryptojacking. Large-volume websites with content that keeps a visitor engaged and at the site are the perfect combination for cryptojackers. Streaming sites are the most ideal platforms as they keep users on the same page for long periods of time. Mobile devices are increasingly becoming a target for cryptomining hackers, with the number of mobile devices connecting to cryptojacking sites and apps growing by 287% between October and November 2017. Almost all of the exposed users are unaware that the script is running on their device, in part due to the unique nature of mobile. Utilizing easily accessible JavaScript libraries, hackers can inconspicuously inject code into even the most secure websites. Websites that have found and removed cryptojacking malware include Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and LA Times website.

He said it was because of an advertisement on AK. I did not click on any ads. I don't pretend to understand Cyber Security. All I know is what he told me. He blocked my access to AK at work. He said something like it was a command and control type keystroke logger that was calling out to a foreign country that is forbidden in my line of work. The last thing that happened before he walked into my office is this: I was reading one of the "survey" type threads. When I clicked to "like" a post, there was a dialog box that appeared saying "are you sure you want to do that?" , so I backed out of it. Then he confiscated my computer. You smart IT guys will know more about this than I.

Cheers,
David

Edit: I was using Google Chrome if that helps

I'm surprised you had access to AK at work to begin with in your line of work.

With the smart phone these are a PITA, it locks the phone and its hard to get away from. I'm still getting them, the worst so far is claiming to be Amazon and I've won something. The only way I've found to get rid if them is repeatedly hitting the back button rapidly.

When was the last one you got? Can you report that in the ad reporting thread we put up? Screen captures with device/OS/browser combo is really helpful!

Maybe @Advally is still around to assist.

We're here! Been working with the admins on this trying to get it figured out. We'll get to the bottom of it, no matter what is causing it.

This is the fourth or so Intrusion attack blocked by my AV software in the last month. This occurred today after updates to AK which I thought were going to resolve the issue but haven't. This only occurs on AK. I had never heard of www.clubmonaco.ca and had to look it up. Apparently it is a clothing retailer. I've never been there before.

Probably no big deal, right?

Mark K.

Would you be able to install an ad blocker for me?

It would be awesome to see on your computer if you put up an ad blocker if this thing stops. That would be extremely helpful information!

As a workaround to a hijack I can't back out of, I go to history and select the forum visit prior to the hijack, or one previous to it if it locks again.
