Marantz 1550 for $20

Have the possibility of getting a Marantz 1550 cheap but the owner says the speakers outs only work if headphones are inserted in the headphone jack.
Does this sound like something that might be a simple fix (dirty switch etc) or a symptom of a more serious problem?

I would vote for fairly simple. Sounds like a dirty switch or contact somewhere in the signal chain.

That's what I'm hoping. I know the 15xx series isn't as highly regarded but I'll take a chance for 20 bucks.

A bit late but I hope you kept it.
I would have thought maybe dodgy contacts on the headphone socket.

My first decent receiver was a Marantz 1530. It sounded good, but the Phono preamp is nothing special. Don’t know if the 1550 uses the same pre. They are nice looking units though.

Later, but still made in Japan. Twenty bux is a no-brainer. If you can't get it working the knobs are worth more than that.
