Just got a rusty 2265 in need of some help. Much easier to find info on the 2265B, it seems.

Anyone know the difference between the two? Also, how does the 2265 fit in / rate compared to other similar powered 22xx series (2245, 2250, 2270)

    Thanks

can't tell ya much, but I have a 2265, great receiver...it's from ~'77 or so, part of the 2238/2245/2252/2265/2285/2330 family of receivers.

Good to know it has the same pedigree as the 2245 and the 2285. Surprised one doesn't hear much about them.

My Marantz 2265B is the greatest receiver of all time. So is the 2265 except it has the cheesy slide balance and doesn't have the silver/black out faceplate. Does that help any? :D Otherwise, you can't go wrong with either, assuming you start with something in decent shape in the first place.:smoke:
I'd say given it's looks and power, it's the younger brother of the 2275.

Can't say anything about the 2265b but I like my 2265.

It's just the little sister of the 2330 and 2285, I would say. The 2252, 2238, 2216 are cheaper designed inside, although they look pretty much the same outside.

For me, the 2265 is one of the nicest looking Marantz receivers. The proportions are just perfect.

I have a 2265 and am very happy with it. I had to clean it up a bit but it works pretty well.

My 2265b gets more play time than my other receivers. I really like it.

I do not like what Marantz did to the meter displays in the 'b' models. I much prefer the whole meter backlight rather than only the lines and numbers being backlit.

I believe you're spot on with proportions on this one Leicalover! I am a Sansui person, but based on your observation and pic, I am shopping for one of these as we speak. Thanks for spending my money for me... :ntwrthy:

Hope I will get a Sansui soon....would like to hear them. I do not know them. But at the moment they are too pricey over here. :thumbsdn:

I just put my 2265 back in play. I have been using my model 16 amp with a 3200 pre, but the 2265 just sounds better to me. I feel like it shouldn't given the history of the model 16 and the lofty praise it gets, but the 2265 just sounds better to me

If it sounds better to you, that's all that matters.

The 3200 preamp could be a factor. It might be fun to hook up the "pre outs" of the 2265 into the 16 and see how that sounds.

I was thinking about that, and I find myself "blaming" the 3200 as well. The 16/3200 combo has more bass for sure, but it's kind of "muddy". The 2265 sounds more "clear". Tomorrow I'm gonna try the 2265 as pre theory out.

I'd be interested in your results when you do. Same speakers for the comparison?

I have a 7t/16b combo I enjoy. For fun one day, I pulled the 16b and used it to drive my Magnepans in another system. Turned out nice but I think the CJ tube preamp contributed a lot.

Tried it both ways this morning. I still find the bass kind of muddy (although definately stronger) through the 16b. I should have mentioned that I'm in a very small room which might lead to the bass from the 16b being a bit "overwhelming" (my neighbors can feel it with the 16b)
Gonna stick with the 2265 for awhile.
