    Hello all,

I have a Marantz 5025B that I just got off the bay. The seller said it was having issues with the tapes not playing. I replaced all three belts and applied Deoxit to the usual places and it now it is playing tapes fine. The problem I’m having is that when in rewind mode it will not stop rewinding and I have to manually stop the rewind function. I have another 5025B and it will automatically stop (the rewind lever pops back up) when rewind is complete.

Looking at the service manual (4.1.6, adjusting the fast forward and rewind torque) I’m thinking that perhaps the rewind idler is the problem.

Has anyone ever had this issue and if so how did you resolve it?

No one has any thoughts on what the solution might be?

Perhaps I’m on the wrong solution track here and someone could steer me in the right direction?

It's been a long time since I've been in a tape deck...but does the deck stop by itself when it reaches the end of the tape in play mode?

The 5025b has a memory counter that uses a solenoid to stop the transport when rewinding. Does that work?

I would follow the linkages operated by that solenoid to find the lever/part that trips the stop mechanism at the end of rewinding (ie., operated by tape tension) Very likely some gummed up grease or something simple like that.

Thanks for the information! I had not considered the solenoid as a problem. The rewind does not turn off after rewinding to the end. I’ve had to manually hit another lever (such as play) to get it to stop and for the rewind lever to go back to its normal position. I’ll take a look and see if there is anything in that area that needs cleaning and relubed.

    Thanks again....Carter
