Marantz amps and integrateds, 100wpc- plus...

thedelihaus

Nocturnal transmissions
anyone have the models of the 100 wpc+ amps?

I think the 130 is about 150wpc, is that correct?

And what about the models with meters?

Thanky!

I believe that the 300 is 150/channel@8
190@4
I have the 1300dc ,it's the 300 and the 3650 pre rolled into 1
willie

510 and 510M

I have the 510M, 256WPC, same as 500...except 500 has no meters.
I think these are way under-rated in actual WPC...my guess is if they are working well they would be closer to 275-300WPC.

Here is mine.

The 500 has 2 big meters, the 510 has no meters
The 500 is rated at 250WPC, a litte less than the 510 or 510M, but for what I know the 500 is one of the best sounding power amp ever built. Unfortunatelly he's not so reliable as the 510 or 510M.

Here is a list for the 70's model
INTEGRATED
1200: 100WPC
1250: 125WPC
1300DC: 150WPC

POWER AMP
240: 120WPC
250: 125WPC
300: 150WPC
500: 250wpc
510: 256wpc

oops

You are right ...I meant to say 510 has no meters....my 510M does.:stupid:

Thanks for pointing out my error.:thmbsp:

Tony, is the reliability on the 500 really bad?

how about the others you've listed- any unreliable models there?

There is a post at this time speaking about the 500 (http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=105970)
Unfortunately I never owe one, personally I love the look of the 500.

About the other ones
All are very reliable
I have had the 250, the 1200.
I still have the 300DC.
As I know the 510-510M are indestructible.
A friend of mine has 2 or 3 of them, I can't remember, and he's very happy, he prefers the 510 to the later model (170-300-SM7).

I've read in another post that the 1200B is more reliable than the 1200.

The Esotec serie is also very nice
Integrated
The little PM5 > 100WPC in AB class
PM6: 120WPC (not sure)
PM6A: 120WPC Quarter A technology
PM8: same as the 1300DC

Power Amp:
SM6 = 120W AB class
SM7 = 300DC
SM8 = 120W Quarter A

Here are some pictures of my old and new setup(s)

Very, very nice. Thank you!

The blue-metered black-barred one in the lower right corner of the group shot- what one is that? Is that a 500 with the front panel to cover the speaker connections?

I think the 300dc is more my speed (financially at least)...

Unfortunately not the 500.

It's a 250

I still had no time to take a picture of the PM5

Just thought I should point out the pattern here, in case anyone has missed it:

With the integrateds, after the "1" on the left is a 3-digit number. That is the total wattage for both channels. For WPC, just cut it in half. Therefore a 1060 has 060= 60 watts, or 30 WPC. To have 100 WPC, the model number has to be at least 12XX.

With the power amps, the model number of the amp is again the total wattage; to get WPC, just divide the model number in half: the 300 is 150WPC.

The "system" breaks down with the Esotec numbering, of course.

For the 22XX receivers, the numbers after an initial "22" indicate WPC. Therefore, the over-100-wpc models are the ones that start with 23XX.

Very nice Tony! You've got some great Marantz equipment!

Was that a Teac X-2000R peeking thru on one of your pics?

Hi Tony,

Your collection is still groing eehhh, very nice indeed :D :D

A have to place a correction on your post.

The SM-7 is very different build then a 300 DC!

The PM-8 is a SC-7 and SM-7 put together.
The 1300DC is a 3650 + 300 DC

You own both power amps so take the top covers off and look inside!

PM-5 = 2 x 80 Watt in AB and 2 x 20 in A.

All output vallues are on paper, in real live they deliver more.

For instance, i messsured the SM-7 at 2 x 226 Watt @ 8 OHM.
The 300 DC came to 2 x 190 Watt's @ 8 Ohm.
The 510 came to 2 x 340 Watt's and allmost blew my dummy-load!!!

Hi Carl,
Thank you,
That's right, this is my former X-2000R.

Hoi Wilfred,

For the PM-5 I was not sure, but you're right.

The SM7 has different transistors and the Power caps are also different, but both of them were built with the same philosophy (I think), unlike the newer models as the SM6-SM8.
