Hello All!

We're working on updating the two Marantz sections of the hfm:

http://www.hifi-museum.com/hf/mar/mar_frame.htm

and

http://www.hifi-museum.com/js/marss/mssindex.htm

It would be very helpful if some of the Marantz collector/experts could help me with a question I have.

Which components were American made, which were made in the USA, and then transferred to japanese production?

For USA made I have the model's 1-20 and the slt turntable, the 32, 240, 250, 250m, 400/400m, 500, and 510/510m power amps.

Possibly the model 30 integrated amp.

And the 33, 3300, 3600 and 3800 pre amps.

for usa and then japanese made I have the 2270 receiver, I dont know about the other's in the series; the 2245, 2230 and 2215.

Where were the se-1s electrostatic headphones made?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:thmbsp:

Hey Marek,

Cool site.

The only receiver that I know that was not built in Japan is the Model 18. I'll have to check my other Marantz gear to see where they were built. I'm sure the other guys will fill in the blanks.

Cheers

Thanks Scott

Yes they have some good info there, and I have checked it out:thmbsp:

Unfortunetly some of the listings don't have the (country of origin) data listed, and the pics aren't clear enough to read so I'm still looking for this info.

What I'm hoping is users and people who know about Marantz might come forward with their experience so an accurate database can be set up, and I'd also like to verify the info that I already have from various sources.

The other thing is some units were apparently made in both us and asian factorys, so mistakes could have been made in one direction or another.

Seems like the Marantz Classic Audio sites has details on just about everything Marantz pre 1980. Missing some mfg locations here and there though, but in a quick scan it did seem like some of the models you mentioned had mfg location listed.

I am always amazed at how few pictures there are of the early hi-fi factories. I've always wanted to see pictures of the early Marantz manufacturing locations or the Philadelphia Dynaco location. Scott, Fisher etc.? Nothing. McIntosh has some interesting history and photos.

The only Marantz peices I have were built in the US in the 50's and 60's so I can't help you much. I'll keep my eyes peeled for "Made in XXX" information for you though. Can probably get some info from Ebay auctions from those who choose to photgraph well.
