Marantz Service Manual error thread

Jailtime

Standin' on a corner
This is a compilation of errors in Marantz service manuals. These corrections will likely save you from smoking your receiver. Remember to use some good mini grabber leads when you're adjusting bias, I've read way too many horror stories of slipping probes.

Big thanks to Tom (catrafter) for contributing most of these.

2220B Idle current adjust:
SM says measure J712 - 718 for one channel, 713 to 719 for the other. WRONG! Do this instead: Measure bias at J714 to 716 and adjust R733 for 20mVDC on that channel. Then measure J715 to 717 and adjust R734 for 20mV on the other channel.

2220B Cap listing:
Service manual lists CE21 & CE22 as 33 uF/50v. Should be 3.3 uf/50v.
CE23 & CE24 listed as standard 1.0 uF/50V. Use non polar caps here.
C709 and C710 should be 47uf 50V, not the listed 500V.

2230 Voltage adjustment:
Manual says measure J08 to Ground. Should be J808.

2265B Parts list error:
SM shows 1000uF/55V for C003/C004 filter capacitors. Value should be 10000uF/55V.

2270 SN<3901 Idle current or bias adjust:
Meter set to read DC mV, connect from J753 to J754, set R763 for 5mV

2270 SN>3900 Idle current or bias adjust:
Meter set to read DC mV, connect from J754 to J760, set R763 for 10mV

2275 Idle current or bias adjust:
SM says measure 707-708, adjust R742 for 10mV. Do this instead: Meter set to read DC mV, connect from J703 to J704, set R742 for 10mV

2325 Silk screen is wrong on PH01 board:
Positive side of CH13 goes toward the center of the board.

1060 diode (early models):
http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=439676

1070 DC Offset adjust:
SM says R724, change to J724.

1070 Cap List error:
SM lists CE05/06 as 47uF/35V. Amp actually uses 4.7uF/25V, reflected on schematics as well.

2230, 2245, 2270 AM tuner:
C183 silk screen is backwards. The + side of the cap goes to chassis ground.
C181 has no polarity silk screen. The + side goes toward the edge of the board.

2330B Schematic Error - http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showpost.php?p=5022087&postcount=23

If you know any other errors in Marantz SMs, please post them.

Help us out! If you've run across anything that's wrong in the Marantz service manuals, post it!

I have a Marantz 26 Receiver. Your schematic matches what Marantz sent me. My audio poer amp board does not however match this schematic. Nice hunh. Okay is there a site with corrections/modifications or subs? My H401/H402 is a 2SC732 and input capacitor is C401 .22mfd for starters. Audio is dead in one channel no matter what source.

I think there was at least one revision for the 26. There's a copy of it at the AK database right here. Hopefully it's correct and helps.

Marantz 1070 Section 5. Power amp adjustment - Step 2. DC offset - Change R724 to J724

Thanks to Lemsto for pointing this out.

New error found while recaping :

1070 SM says CE05 and CE06 caps are 47uF/35V.
Still in SM manual, both EU & US schematics + my 1070 amp caps tell 4.7uF/25V instead.

Just remembered this one! 2230, 2245, 2270 AM tuner, C183 silk screen is backwards. The + side of the cap goes to chassis ground.
C181 has no polarity silk screen. The + side goes toward the edge of the board.

Okay crisis over. I must have had my meter on the wrong setting. Everythings good now.

2220B method is correct for the 2230B.

Tom , the forum owes you so much. Thanks much for posting this.
I ran into this today while working on my 2270 and was
totally puzzled, before I found this post of yours here!

I found it useful to have a summary of service advisories at hand,
though it may be more apt in a separate 2270 thread.

M-2270-1 - Replace 2SC984 on the power amp boards (750) at
location H760, with a 2SC496 or similar.

M-2270-2 - Idle current adjustment - for serial numbers 3901 and
above, connect the voltmeter between terminals J754 and J756.
(see the first post in this thread by Jailtime for details)

M-2270-3 - Silk screen missing on 750 board for diff pair H751-752.

M-2270-4 - Relay replacement with an improved twin contact part.
Tom's reco works great - part # MY2-DC24(S) relay (Digikey Z182-ND)

M-2270-5 - Phono preamp transistor 2SC458 (H705, H706) to be
replaced by a 2SC1775A (C, D or E beta range).

M-2270-6 - The service manual schematic has the wrong polarity
for diode H801 on the P800 power supply board.

Is this definitely right? The 2275 service manual I downloaded from audio karma's manual database has 707 and 708 scratched out, with 703 and 704 written above. Just want to make sure before I do this.
Thanks!

Just use the easily accessible test points located between the heat sinks of the driver transistors. They are labeled J701 and J702 on the board.
