The amp shipped today! I'm on pins and needles. I hope, I hope, I hope it arrives undamaged.

From the brief description of the DAC section, above:

"The No.585's menu lets the user pick one of three different filter
characteristics for digital streams with PCM content:
Fast rolloff, Slow rolloff, or Minimum Phase impulse response."
Which setting should I use? Think it will be one of those switches where many people hear no difference? I think it is selectable with the remote, IIRC, so I'll compare and let you know. Uh-oh, I better stop - don't want to jinx myself counting chickens too soon.

High praise from Stereophile. Well engineered and also an audio porn star. :) I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions.

Yes it is, but... I know I don't look it - and I hate to brag - but I was once a multi-thousandaire. Yep, rolling in it. No more - at least as far as my audio kitty is concerned. Now I'm just a po-boy again. Brother, can you spare a dime?

    Cool name for that climb.

Obviously, I posted for humor. The fact is that when I was a salesman, our clients who stepped up to buy pricier equipment were not mostly 'rich people' but, rather, guys like me who had the interest and saved some of their 'disposable income' for items they really wanted, while cutting back their expenses in other areas to keep it real. Willing to drive that old car another year or two, cancel their cable/sat, make their own coffee, brown-bag their lunch, etc. And, of course, willing to buy used, if that's what it took. My kind of guys.

Great integrated, i was very interested in one last year.... so please share your opinions once it arrives :)

I am sure it will not dissapoint!, i personally only have experience with Older levinsons (ml-6, no.26s, no.27 and No.29), and deeply enjoyed them... as I am sure you will enjoy yours, congrats!!

    "It sure is ugly."

"What!? Are you crazy!? Just look at it!!"

    "I am looking at it."

"It's beautiful! How can you possibly think it's ugly? Here, look when I zoom in."

    "It's ugly up close, too."

    "What!?"

"Reminds me of a two-toned Granada - or was it a Monarch?"

"You're crazy! Yes, those were bad, but a red, or a sky-blue, '57 Corvette with the white swirl and white interior were absolute works of art! That's more comparable to Mark Levinson than a Granada!"

She leans closer, "Nope, I don't see it. Granada. Or was it Monarch?"

"Well, when you see it in person I bet you'll change your mind."

She looks again, "Nope. It's ugly."

"But the AK guys think it's sharp as hell. Listen, this guy called it a porn star."

"Wonder what he does when he looks at the pictures?"

    Women.

    (Yes, actual conversation.)

"The box and packing weighs 23.8 pounds, the amp 71.7 on its own - 95.5 pounds. It's a hundred pounds."

"Well, that's just ridiculous. There's no reason for it to weigh so much."

"It's built ruggedly, to close tolerances, using some of the best parts available."

"If they're so smart, why can't they build it light?"

    "You're missing the whole point-"

She interrupted, "Well, I guess I know I'm not! The whole point is that we have to pick it up, get it in the house, unbox it, and put it in the cabinet. We've played this game enough that I've caught on. And it's the damned Titanic! It's us that will be the casualties! Especially me, since I'm the one who has to get down on the floor to hook it all up. There's your stankin' point!"

"I hate to tell you this... but it's worse than you think. First, we have to saw out some more access in the back of the cabinet. Kyle never got to it when he was doing all the reno here. So everything has to come out, first, including the plasma on top. Then we measure and make our marks, put the cabinet face down on a tarp and use the jigsaw to finally open up access more."

"So we'll be doing all this Tuesday - my day off this week..."

    "Yep."

Pause. "And they just had to make it a hundred pounds - and you just had to buy it. You sure are lucky I love you."

"Yes, I am. And no worries, I'll be supervising your every move."

"I'm gonna supervise a knot on your head!" Then muttered, "A hundred pounds is just stupid."

"It's really only about 72 pounds - after we get it unboxed. And we'll leave the cart out front so the FedEx guy can set it on that."

    "He better do it, too."

    "Yes, dear."

"Just yes-dear me one more time and see what happens!"

    "Yes, dear."

Your offer is much too generous - I just wouldn't feel right - so I must decline. Much appreciated, though... so thoughtful.

I know, from their reputation, that this equipment is some quality stuff. I just don't like the design of their appearance.

You sound like Christine. I find the design rather elegant for such a chunky beast. Well, beauty in the eye and all that. :)

At least you didn't claim it looks like a two-tone Granada...
