Did you go to the McIntosh website and check for your local authorized Service guy? I've gone directly to the Mc service guys here in Toronto and have been very pleased. They resurrected my MC-240 quite brilliantly. I normally don't go to dealers for service at all. That would save you packing and shipping etc

Hi Bill

Yup I tried the authorized dealers in my area. Really there is only two. One I mentioned a bad experience with and the other does no work on the premises. They will gladly charge me 100.00 to box up my pre and ship back to the factory.

I can do that myself and much cheaper

If it were me and I didn't have boxes and wanted to ship it to the good folks in Binghamton, I would call them and buy some shipping boxes. That way you will be assured that it gets there safely. Most likely they will not like whatever you pack it in anyway.
