Hi All,
Just joined, and first post. Have been a McIntosh fan for a long time. Don't have too much of the gear. McIntosh is hard to find in New Zealand, and when you do, it's either old or broken.
I've got a Mc2500, and one of the gains is playing up. The left channel cracks when you adjust the gain. A few days ago, while listening to some music, the left channel's volume just drops to about 1/2 what it was. The other channel is fine. When when I turned up the gain to full, it's quite quiet compared to the other channel. I've turned the pushed the gain a few times, and seems to be working now.
I want to replace it. I've checked the service manual, and it shows it as a 100k pot. When I actually measured the pot, I got 24k reading on my meter. My question is does anyone know the exact specs of the pot? If it is 100k or 24k, if it's a log or linear pot, and if needs to be some special 'audio grade' pot, or will any pot with the right numbers do?
Thanks in advanced.
