MC75 Reiussed, Did I Made the Right Chioce?

Hello brothers in audio,

I have an opportunity to buy a pair of NOS 60th anniversary MC75 in gold or used but near mint pair of MC75 reissued (stainless color) that made in 2015 from Audio Classics. The stainless pair is about $1000 less than the gold. I was very torn between the two pair, and decide to the stainless base on 1) new model maybe free some production problems, since the 60th anniversary MC75 were in their first production run after revision. 2) Stainless is prettier than the gold and less maintenance. 3) Cheaper, and easier to resale.

Did I made the right choice? Is there sonic difference between new model and the 60th anniversary MC75? Thanks

PS: I want to use them to replace my Cary 805C

As lover of Mac mono blocks , I'd love to find out. I haven't been wanting :D.
Unless they screwed the pooch on the reissue (which I highly doubt) and your speakers aren't looking for 100 damping factor you should be pleased. That said, if it doesn't float your boat you should be able to recoup your funds and try something else . I'm thinking you'll be happy . Please let us know
Good luck and enjoy !

No, he is talking about the MC75 monoblocks, not the MC275.

Home Theater: MX134, MC7300(2), MC7150(2), MC2155, MPI4, MEN220, LS350(2), HT2, HT4. Play Room: C33, MC2125, MPI4, MR80, MEN220, SL1, XD717(2). Master Bedroom: MX118, MC7108, LS310(2). Guest Room: MX115, MC250. Also: MAC4100, MC2100, MC502, C504, MR500, MC754, MA6200.

That's a lot of toys!
Maybe you are a junkie
Maybe we need to have an intervention on your behalf. It's for your own good:D

No tube amps?

Personally, I'd of sprung the extra G and bought the NOS gold amps. But, that's just me. You just NEVER see those. A while ago, a gent popped in here for a bit with (4) of the gold MC275s among other things. Wow.

ron-c would be the guy to comment on improvements between the latest and greatest if there were any.

One vote for the gold.

The original MC 75 had about half the distortion of one channel of a 275 at full power and the specs reflected that. 0.3 % for the MC 75 and .5 for the 275. Iknow things are much closer today in actual use as they were back then. But having a big power supply for a single channel guarantees better performance than a single power supply for two channels. O f course you could get a MC 2000 and have two total separate amps on one chassis and have meters, too. But then you wallet would be many times lighter, too. You haven't made a bad choice, you have made a wise choice that will bring you many hours of enjoyment. Just don't get the 2301 itch, that is something you'll never be able to scratch with two MC 75's. I still have my MC 3500 bi amp itch, but I chose to have 2 MC 207's rather than 8 MC 3500's and 3 MC2000. I d really prefer 9 MC 301's and 2 MC 152's or 14 1.2 K amps, But I'm just being silly now.

Speaking of re-tubing,. that and the quality of the bass is what made me move from 275's bi-ampimng to SS back in the 70's. It took a lot of searching and updating , but I was happy for the next 30 years until 2008, when I started up grading again and adding HT. Now I'm very happy with my MC207's. Look what's new !

Thanks, twiiii.

First of all, I could not afford 2301, and they are very expensive to retube, it is the same for MC275, expensive to retube if you run mono. But since all my speakers ( Tannoy Turnberry for now, Canterberry is next) are very sensitive that are rated at least 90db plus, I don't see a reason for need of 100+ tube watt. Beside, MC75 are really light, I can easily arrange them the way I want. I can't wait to get feet wet to own my first Mac tube gears. Like you said MC75 has bigger power supply and have more reserve dynamic power per watt.

I will do a brief companion between Cary 805C and MC75, and report back, even it means apple Vs. banana or maybe whisky vs cognac

No one's mentioned yet whether the gold chassis is better at reducing transient intermodulation distortion than stainless steel.

Or . . . more importantly . . . whether electrons travel more quickly from the input to the output given the increased conductivity of gold vs. stainless steel.

Pulled some tubes from my collection, never used 12AT7 or 12AX7 type tubes. I also have two pairs of Brimar CV4033 coming too. Any more recommendations?
