How good are these speakers?

Would they be a good match for a McIntosh MAC6700 integrated in a 12ft x 14ft living room?

Yes it's a good match but sometimes the bass is a little bit exaggerated. Tame the bass.
Overall it's an excellent pair with the MAC6700

I used them with my MA6600 three years long! Very good speakers, especially for their size!

I used the XR50 with a subwoofer, although they habe a good bass response!

I'm running a pair of XR50's in a smaller room with my 6700 and am very, very pleased with them. I don't hear excessive bass with them at all. Running XR100's in larger room and also very pleased. Running through a Niles speaker selector on 12 ga wire. The 50's voice very nicely. Mostly classical and jazz, some rock. All 2 channel. I think they're great and plan on keeping them all.

I never understood the term bookshelf. yes, I get it, but if they're rear porting, as most are, you can't use them in a bookshelf at all.
