Messing around with a Pioneer HPM wanna-be

I bought these weird Pioneers last year at the thrift store.... the model is L30. "say what?"... ya my thought too... Best I can figure is Pioneer took some parts and made cheap speakers for Service Merchandise or Sears... The Cabinets are HPM 100 cabs... Same exact dimensions, same 1 1/4" thick baffle. The drivers are look-a-likes. They are built well, but not HPM parts... I fixed the surrounds and they are wild bright! Almost torture to the ears. So I had these EPI Magnus pots and crossovers hanging around and thought I'd give it a try. Got everything wired and its late here in apartment land so I can't test....... the Pioneers say 1200 and 5600 as crossover and the EPI's are 500 and 4k.... At least I'll be able to tone down the highs and see if that will help. If it does I will spend the money and go buy an L-pad and mount it in..... It's a shame to think these are a waste. They sound really good for Pioneer basement models.... I'll let you know..
