Zilch, that's really impressive...

Got a pair of -12's to compare? I've never heard the 7 but am listening to the 12 now and I am blown away....unfortunately I think I just popped one tweeter with a turn on blast.

Are you thinking external crossover (mounted in-sub), 2nd or third order and some compensating filter to extend the highs?

:scratch2:

Then get that sub thread rolling and we're in business....

If there's a sub, I'm definitely going to try to build it, as I am designing a rolling sound cart for recording live mixing, and I can easily integrate a small sub along with the planned 7's as nearfield over-desk monitors.

We have lots more to learn about them yet; there are three existing mod proposals to compare. By the time that's done, we may know enough to fix them.

I have played them with JBL Control SB-5 and Accurian amp. That worked nicely, but these measurements suggest that the Minimus 7s are not themselves adequate for use as monitors.

Yet.... ;)

There was a period when I had a standup MIDI/mixing setup in the corner of a studio apartment and primarily used Minimus 7s. They are similar to NS-10s in that they have little deep bass, but in that corner, they worked fine, despite the limitations, you could work with them. I had no sub. Still have the 7s in a box somewhere.....

Following with interest.
I don't have enough to build a wall, however.

Dig 'em out, Skywave, and play along with us here.

Let's see what model you have, and if your RTA measurements corroborate Murphy's and my findings.... :thmbsp:

Definitely following this thread with intense interest.

I use -12's as monitors, but since I fried a driver (I think..still listening), I am even more interested than I normally would be.

I googled the Control SB5 and it came up with a 3 driver monster of a sub that would not be comparible with the 7's size...I am in need of a compact, cheap, rugged, solution for live and "studio" (I don't have a studio, so I try to get 2 adjoining rooms in my school to record in when I record, ahsn't happened yet) monitoring....

eBay, ~$50.

Zilch, I should have my measurements up here in a day or two.
It will be interesting to see how consistent they turn out to be. :thmbsp:

here are detailed pictures of my 1991 M7's with the ebay crossover modification; I used these for mixing and thought they were great.... still going to use them for that "NS-10 sound"
