Is it dangerous to just output from a HifiBerry Pi, or a Squeezebox Touch, to a power amp?

i listen to music entirely from my lossless flac files. is there a quality preamp that is modern (has network streaming capability/run runeOS/etc..) out there that could output to a power amplifier?

would hate to see my JBL L112 speakers get blown!

If it's got a volume control, I think it's unlikely to be dangerous. There are plenty of streaming devices out there that can serve as preamps - I like the Bluesound Node 2 myself.

"Speaker protection" is a function of the amp, regardless of how it is fed an input signal. Any type of source with a volume control and compatible output voltage will be fine.
