here's a clip of my son having a moment during practice for racing; he got the corner entry wrong and he's travelling at about 120mph on a 18" wide unmade sidewalk against a grass bank about 6ft tall

That is why this is considered one of the most dangerous races in motor racing.

I used to race open desert but Isle of Man truly separates the men from the boys.

A friend of mine LOVES th Isle of Man.

No offence meant toward your son, but IMHO it is more than idiotic to ride like that on a road track.

I hope he quits before this happens to him:

No offence taken. It's a feature of this event that a simple miscalculation (or experiment with a new approach to a corner) that leads to incidents like that in my video. The incident in your video happened a couple of years back in which a friend of ours was one of the marshals at the scene and was part of the clean-up team....

I hope your son (who is approaching 50, according to you) realizes that reflexes at 50 aren't what they were at 20.

Not that reflexes have anything to do with it at 120 mph.

Glad he's okay. That was frightening. Isle of Man is absolute lunacy. I can hardly watch it.

Thanks for your concern Onward. The thing about being relatively old in this sport is that you've probably been hurt before (as he has) and know how much it hurts and that trims in the individual's ambitions. This sport is addictive and as a 50+ year motorcyclist I understand it completely. There's a surprising number of +50s competing in this event but it's the younger guys who make up the casualty list. Better than drugs? I don't know..

@ DougBrewster, yes, indeed, age and pain are a fantastic way to blunt further shenanigans. Hell, I went bowling Friday night and pulled a hamstring on the second frame. How's THAT for out of shape?
