Two off the top of my head.
No Country For Old Men
Odd? Or surprising?
Jacob's Ladder is pretty much my WTF movie.
Two lane black top
I felt that way about "The Happening" with Mark Wahlberg and "The Crossing Guard" with Jack Nicholson.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
John Carpenter's The Thing 1982
I figured that one started this thread.
The other one is Dirty Mary Crazy Larry.
That movie reminded me of another Tim Robbins movie with an equally WTF ending:
Erik The Viking
How about Taxi Driver
8 1/2 by Fellini.
"Thelma & Louise"
"Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid"
WARNING *** tough ending to watch.
This ending did not sit well with the movie going audience (why shoot the running man in the back?) ... but makes perfect sense from a "character" perspective. You have to pay close attention to the dialog (character building) throughout the movie.
Made no sense to me when I was a kid ... but like fine wine ... got better with age ... takes life experience that comes with time to understand the characters . One of my favorite thinking mans westerns.
No such list is complete without Harold and Maude ...
PS ... I figure a "spoiler alert" would be a bit redundant here, considering the thread's title ... but hey, if you've never seen the movie ... SPOILER ALERT! <G>
I'd have to agree with you there...watched it twice and I'm still not sure.
+1 for Holy Grail. They ran out of money according to the directors cut. That would have been my pick...
Sleepaway camp has quite a strange ending! (1983)
I think its the BEST out of all of them......
I recently watched Children of Men, it somewhat ends odd. Maybe I need to watch it again at some point.
I can't believe no one has mentioned a couple Kubrick classics: 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining.
