but not quite... I have owned a couple of 800's that were pretty ratty.. Sold them off. This 400 receiver is a creampuff chalk full of tele 12ax7 and all fisher labeled 7868's. Just need a wood bonnet. Anyway Im keeping this one and since I have a nice SA-100 and a FM-100 tuner that was paired with my X-202. My plan is to sell X-202 and seek out 400CX...

I hope you are aware of the Early 400 / Late 400 differences. Post the Serial# and We'll let ya know.

Yours is a very late production unit. Late versions (serials 48001 and up) had 10k primaries in the output transformers, which dug into the already marginal 22-23 watts per channel they are actually capable of. There were NFB circuit changes to go along with this.

If you're gonna restore it, suggest the FORUM Sub-STICKES would be a great place to start. Most of the Technical ISSUES are addressed by Dave G. in various threads.

Any questions no matter how stupid or D'OH you think they are, are answered here with a kowing look and sometimes a smirk, as at least 99% of us have BTDT. So ask away.

Sounds like very late is not so good in this situation. Was this done due to aiding longevity of OPT???

We haven't figured out why FISHER did what they did. But as it's only audible on a Scope, don't worry about it. I have both an early 10,000 series and a 56,000 series and can't tell them apart.
