My First Marantz Receiver ... Model 2245?

The good news is that I picked up my first Marantz receiver (2245) at a garage sale this morning ... the bad news is that it won't power up ...

The seller assured me that it worked the last time that he used it ... he offered to plug it in ... but I was in a hurry ... so I didn't take him up on his offer ...

I changed the fuse ... but no go ... there may be a problem with the Power switch ... is the button suppose to stay depressed when the unit it on? ...

Sweet find, and good luck getting her up to speed, which I am sure you will. The power switch should stay engaged, btw.

Good luck!

Nice find, very heavy unit, the switch should stay depressed, here might be a cheap switch; CBW Power Switch

I still have the exact lamps in case they don't work, nice find, Dave.

Thanks guys ... the receiver also has a couple of blemishes ... the outer knob on the Bass is missing (do you have to replace the whole knob? ... or can you replace just the outer portion? ... I haven't looked at it closely) ... and there is a nick in the face plate (right above the "n" in Marantz) ...

If I should run across a junk 2200 series Marantz receiver ... will the Power switch be the same on all of them? ...

They are worth it, a 2245 is worth about $125-$175 in descent shape.
Not to mention Marantz made some of the best sounding receivers ever built.

Apparently this seller needs a lesson in eBay ethics. Nice shipping policy.

couldn't agree more, and i feel like this is getting more and more common on E-bay. Congrats on the Marantz chip; I also grabbed my first Marantz today, a 2238. I'm very excited to get it set up, it looks very very nice. Does anyone know off hand if there is a 110/120 Volt selector that should be set approapriately on this unit?

thanks

nielsvanm2,

Glad to hear you got a nice receiver as well, the 2238, like the 2265 is regarded as one of the better of their 22xx series.
I don't know if Marantz uses a 110v/120v selector, but my line is 120v and I never had an issue, most transformers can handle an extra 10v fine.

Thanks for the info ... sounds like the Power switch will work ... but the Bass knob that I need is a dual knob ... controling each speaker ...

Ah, pardon me.
I cannot find one on epay at the moment, but I will be on the lookout.

I just did that power switch that's on e bay on my 2230. Worked out just fine. The one Dgwojo was talking about would probably work just as well if you want to save a few bucks.

Take care,

Ed

Good to know ... I am a novice when it comes to repairs ... how difficult is replacing the power switch? ... on a scale of 1 to 10 ...
