My formal introduction.

To High For Infinity
Hello AK'ers,

My name is Alex, I live in Montgomery, Alabama. I am a twin, but unfortunately my brother is not an audio lover like I am. My parents just divorced last year, after 36 years of marriage..My dad ran off with a 32yo woman, and he is 57yo(lol). he is my father though, so I still visit him twice a week.
I have always loved internet forums, and have been a member at other hobbyist sites since early 2004. I was into computer customizing and overclocking since 2002, but I have since taken little interest in it, beside my job.I originally signed up at Audiokarma to ask a question about a SX-950 in late 2005 that would not work for piddly squat. Many folks answered, but the problem wasn't apparent. So I took the unit to a electronic repair shop. SIX months later, they call and let me know they burned the driver boards up, well then, I did not know I might have been able to fix them. So, I told them to trash it.....GASP!
I have always regretted that decision, but hind sight IS 20/20. After that I started lurking on AK, and posting the occasional thread or two, but was not very active. I took a break from the audio hobby to pursue other hobbies, such as restoring(sand, paint, rebuild) small B&S motors, of which I owned 7 or 8 of them, but later sold to fund my audio addiction, I still do have one put away, because I love the 5s style motors. I collected telephones for a while as well, and own about 50 or so model 302s and 500s, and one 5302(hybrid of those). I got back into audio in late 2006, when a friend gave me a free Marantz 2265B. It had scratchy controls and what-not, so I hopped on AK and posted some pics and questions about it. I got the advice I needed to get it to sound awesome. I then pulled my L100s out of the closet and hooked them up. I HAD forgotten how good decent stereo gear sounded!
Ever since I have been buying and collecting stereo gear and I currently have just to name a few Sansui 9090DB, Pioneer SX-1250, Sansui 9090, Pioneer SX-9 and Marantz 2270. I was using the L100s until recently when another member here recommended some things and now I am hell bent on getting some awesome DIY speaker made.

Something interesting(might be anyway. :)) I've not made public on AK is I am going to music school next year after I graduate technical college(network maintainence associates degree). Just recently I've been practicing to be an opera singer. I will be taking classes for my range, being tenor.
I will also be taking some classes on piano, as I have been trying to learn how to play for a couple of years now.

The job I am going for to pay for music school(night school) is a network maintainence specialist. I have completed my cisco certification and all 4 of my cisco classes(along with the other required curriculum).

To address something more personal.
I am a very akward acting person(as if you needed me to tell you). If I have ever offended you, or if I ever do, it was probably not intentional, as I can be very rash sometimes. I guess I am a bit mentally deficient in the area of internet people skills. Things I say or do sometimes come off the wrong way.
Some people have accused me of being arrogant, because of the way I word myself sometimes, but I can assure everyone I am NOT arrogant.

On another note; I listen to a whole variety of music from opera to techno. I listen to classical and opera the most however. i even own several greatest operettas vinyls from reader's digest from the 40s. I however, do not listen to rap(doesn't make me think of music, maybe just not my bag).

Anyway, just thought i'd get the formal introduction out of the way. Ak has been awesome, so many times I screwed up and everyone let it slide(with a few exceptions). I thank everyone who has looked passed my idiocies and tried to see I ain't such a bad guy. I have enjoyed my time at AK, and plan to keep enjoying it as long as I am welcomed here.

Yea I do this too.....only when I do it....it's usually(always...:D) after too many tequilia's. Life goes on, hell it's only the Internet.
Glad to make your acquaintance...

You've come a long way since you joined Alex.... we're glad you stuck around!

Welcome to AK Alex,

I truly thought you were a dumbass. But hey, you're just a kid trying to make it out there. Kudos to you.

Cheers

It's the old "people who live in glass houses ..." adage. If only those of us who've never made a mistake could chime in, there'd be virtually no posts here. I know I couldn't post. Alex, I enjoy all your posts. Howdy!

Alex,
You have a good heart and head. Youth can be awkward at times, but take your time growing up.

Do me a favor and loose the "Monsieur Dumbass."

I'm glad you stuck around.

Cheers,
Carl

Alex, always enjoyed your posts and your usually positive attitude.

That intro was pretty revealing! You have many irons in the fire. Voice lessons, piano lessons, cisco, poncho, all that stuff. Good for you, trooper. You're experiencing life in a fulfilling way. Don't stop.

I don't know why some people would think you were a dumbass, Monsieur.

Rick

Greetings, Alex! Nice intro. I wish you the best of luck in your singing aspirations.

I haven't been around long enough to know specifically what you're talking about, but I do know it didn't take me very long to put my foot in my mouth. You never know when the next step you take is right in a pile of doodoo. Life goes on.

I think Monsieur Dumbass is pretty funny, actually. Nothing wrong with a little self-depreciating humor, as long as you don't take it seriously ;)

Well, since I've been reading your posts, they've seemed perfectly normal to me. But then, I need help myself, so what does that say? :D

Sorry about the family situation, but glad to see how your career is working out. I've built all my computers, and used to be into overclocking, too. And nice to know another classical lover.

Hang in there, buddy, and glad you're here! :thmbsp:

Seen you grow a lot over your couple years here, Alex, here's to the future :beerchug:

Alex, you have become a fine addition to our collective madness.

Best of luck with your musical endeavours.:music:

Congratulations lad, I used to teach that stuff (we were a Cisco training partner) and getting their accreditation is no walk in the park.

Alex, did you get that other little thing taken care of yet ? Don't make me come down there...<grin>
