This is my domain and retreat. I'm very happy with the sound but would like to play with a tube pre and may add one soon. It's a mess, but I figured I might as well post, since waiting "until it's 100% done" seems to be a fools-errand. Most of my music is digital FLAC and in the basement, played through SB3. But I can do radio and vinyl as well.

  • DIY Flexy Table (MDF w/ Tar damping), painted at AutoBody shop
  • Realistic Minimus 7W (with Zilch PZ2.1 xover) (soon to be 4, paired with 2230, need powered sub)
  • Marantz 2230 (restored by Catrafter, custom paint on cover- thread on paint: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=353335)
  • Thorens TD-160 (new plinth with Dynamat and Cork, TD 150 Inner Platter, TD160 Balanced Outer Platter, carbon fiber top, Grace 840-F/Denon DL-110/Silver Cables/Stainless Armboard, TD150 Hz NOS motor, MOSE/Hercules, Linn Springs--actually used original with new rubber, TT Weight, Herbie's Audio Mat, Ply/MDF Base, Joel Hard Thrustplate, Lavezzi Oil)... this still isn't 100%, it's been an incredibly long-haul with many starts/stops, when it's done to my satisfaction I'll post the thread on building it since it's something I did myself.
  • Hagerman Cornet built by Wayne at Bolder Cable (he lives relatively near me); Jensen Caps (pic).
  • Logitech Squeezebox (with Bolder Cable mods by Wayne)
  • Custom Pre by Mark Houston (Australian DIY) using Jupiter Beeswax caps (pic)
  • Wellborne PS for Squeezebox and custom Passive Pre by Mark Houston
  • Hafler DH-220 Mono Amps (built by Wayne at Bolder Cable, using John Hillig's kits) Thread here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=aij87sg23np3g7rd749lrv40qn82q936&topic=69947.0
  • Gray's Power Company 600s
  • Advent Econowaves by Wayne, Bolder Cable-- outboard x-overs (below), no rez, lot's of mortite, woofers refoamed by Audio Atlanta. (pics) Driven by the Hafler DH-220 Monos.
  • Misc cables- some DIY silver, some Bolder Cable, DIY CAT6
  • 2nd TT coming soon- Lenco with Jeremy SuperBearing, PTP3 (powdercoated), etc.

  • DIY Flexy Table (MDF w/ Tar damping): http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=353338
  • Marantz 2252B (restored by Catrafter)
  • Logitech Squeezebox 3 (with Bolder Cable mods by Wayne)
  • Adcom GFA-545 (rebuilt as dual-mono using Jensen caps/dual Torroids by John Hillig, Musical Concepts- see pic)
  • Brickwall Audio 8-Port
  • Dynaudio 52s (with new x-overs by Wayne, Bolder Cable- see pic, disappointing to see originals; vinyl removed and currently primed with oil base primer-- undecided what to do next)
  • Rek-O-Kut N33H w/ Sumiko MMT (minor mods, more planned)
  • Woodward Machine Lamp (restored by me)
  • DIY Cat6 Speaker Cables (not pictured)

I'll post pics of these if anyone is interested... I know the HPMs are most loved/hated of all time, but I like them esp. with mods. I do have some other HPM speaker parts I could swap in (e.g. tweeters) but haven't felt it necessary yet. I also added felt around the tweeter. With the HPMs, I'm not sure I need a sub, even with movies.

Living Room (not pictured):

  • Logitech SB (modified by Wayne, Bolder Cable)
  • NAD T752
  • Klipsh Center Channel (may replace or go phantom center)
  • HPM-100s (re-done by Wayne at Bolder Cable, lower x-over point, upgraded xover)
  • Adcom GFA-545 II (no mods)
  • Proficient in-wall Surrounds (not great, but good enough for whizz/bang movies)

Son's system (not pictured):

  • Cambridge Audio 640p
  • NHT SB1
  • United Audio Dual 1224 by Bill @ FixMyDual with Walnut base (still trying to find some of the better Duals...)
  • Tim Rawson Gainclone
  • Mark Houston (Australian DIY Builder) Passive Pre

Daughter's system (not pictured):
  • HK 330c
  • Paradigm Titan's (cast woofer baskets)-- don't kill me, but these have had the vinyl removed and have been painted gloss pink, fabric also removed.

Nice? Friggin awesome! ;)
Right up my alley, wish I could make the kit stuff you've got myself.

Please share your Lenco and the build process(, I still need to learn 'how to do it' for my upcoming L78 conversion).

I am wondering; Is the Thorens better than the RoK?

Better? I don't know... Yes, now as I've done more to it. Honestly they are both great and you could do a lot with each. I think the Rek is more forgiving in general. I like them both. They are both belt-driven. I'd love an idler Rek (someday).

I think the Thorens is top dog now until the Lenco is built....

You've got some fun stuff there!

I too am looking forward to that Lenco build. I've been contemplating a Jeremy bearing for my L78, when I get around to it - others are in queue before it. There's a ROK L34 that will probably get the love first.
