Glenn, after reading of your quest for a sub for the maggies and my own difficulties getting the timbre right on my own "bass augmenters", I've become more entrenched than ever in the "If you're not happy with the bass, you don't have big enough main speakers," camp. It's pretty rare that I hear a subwoofer that's nothing more than a testament to wattage and cone real-estate, whereas the 10" woofers in the vintage marvels blend well with the other drivers in their enclosures that an engineer or too took the time to develop.
