My Vintage Pioneer

Hi
I just joined the group. I have owned every kind of audio gear over the years and there has been alot of years . I am a retired 64 year old Vintage Pioneer freak. A few years ago I sold all my digital gear and started collecting and restoring the Pioneer pieces I could only dream of back when I was just a kid. I simply love this old stuff. Most of the peices I have today are restored inside and out. After more then thirty years I am spinning vinyl again ... amazingly therapeutic for this old man. Anyway looking forward to talking and discussing music and gear with you all.

Wow... your Pioneer gear looks great! I particularly like the silver face on those rack or stacked components. I have found the Pioneer brand to be worthy of collectors and been well built back in the day. I am curious about the power amp, I don't recall Pioneer having an amp of that stature? Is that a special edition or one of the few mass produced amplifiers Pioneer "pioneered"

Also.. what is the spec on the amp?

Hi
The Pioneer power amp is the Spec 2. It is 250 watts a side into 8 ohms. The preamp above it is the Spec 1 that was the matching preamp back in the day. I beleive these were among the highest end separates that came to North America. I had the SX1980 reciever and sold it when deciding I wanted the separates.

What is the component at the bottom below the turntable?
It is two component. The top piece is a timer that pioneer made back in the dayand the bottom piece is a RG 2 Dynamic Expander. I have them stacked with one peice of wood on the sides rather than separate pieces of wood for each. It looks a little wierd, but I was not going to spend much on them as they are more novalty pieces.

Wow. Very nice setup that you have. Everything looks brand new. Do you do anything novel to clean the silver face?

Welcome!
I have a few Pioneer pieces myself. Great stuff.

No I don’t do anything other than wipe it down with a damp cloth. I was very fussy when I bought my components. They had to be in very good condition.I was also willing to spend a little more to get clean pieces. I take each piece into a local tech and have then restored if I plan to keep them long term. I am lucky in that I know a really good cabinet maker who does all the woodwork for me. My HPM 100b look brand new after he redid the cabinets for me. Its all what you want I suppose? I am a bit of a freak when it come to get this stuff pristine. I am older now and can afford to get what I want. One of the only good things about getting old. LOL

Welcome Aboard!

Pine-Ear? What's that? I don't believe I've seen those before...

Nice arrangement you have there.

Pine - Ear.
Mind if I steal that ? Lol .

I’ll never get into the op’s territory . But I’m happy where I am .

What didn’t Pioneer do right ?
Answer : Nothing .

LOL. I thought it was ONE component. I was wondering what had a clock and fluoroscan meters.

It's public domain. It's like walking into your WaWa and punching in extra mayo on your Ciabatta Chicken sammich - Anyone can use it.

Are those custom wood side panels on the RT-909?
Yes. I had custom wood panels made for all of my components in Hawaiian Koa. My PL-570 is done in the same wood. The original plastic finish was peeling off the turntable so I decided to get it redone in Koa. Once I got it back, I like it so much that I had side panels made up for the rest of the system. The picture show the turntable and side panels on the RT 909 a little better.
