New Electronics Tax in Alberta

Recently announced and in all the papers. there is a new tax on TV's and computers. It's not on stereos yet but it has been mentioned. The tax is between 5.00(for a laptop) and 45.00 (for a TV 46" or larger) The "fee" is to be contributed to a recycling program aimed at keeping the units out of the landfill and promote re-cycling.

This is a tolerable solution. The next big headache thing is no-lead solder in the EU starting two years from now. I would prefer a recycling fee to redesigning every product. Who throws a McIntosh in the dump after a few years anyway?

They are trying this type of thing here. 15 dollars to recycle a computer, sheesh, I can throw away a whole truck load of trash for less than that. I'm sorry, but I am not paying to recycle my stuff, just doesn't sit well. Maybe if it was a small fee, I would do it, but they always add these things in thinking people are stupid. Why not educate people first, instead of ask for money.
