So I have a large collection of cd's well over 1000 and pln to continue buying physical media.

Looking at new generation cd players and have certainly come a long way. My goal is to put together a headphone based cd listening system around $1-$2.5K Canadian at some point.

SCAD is a must in the system and mostly a classical music listener with 80's pop.

What do I use right now?? A Macbook pro laptop using Mac Superdrive for playing cd's I use a Focusrite 8/18 adc/dac fed to a Schitt Magni 3 using Sennheiser 280 HD Pro headphones

Once the budget improves I'm leaning towards Cambridge or Marantz transports and potentially Schitt, Korg, or Cambridge Dacs. IF I was REALLY rich and totally dreaming the new Quad Dac/tube headphone amp would be instantly there

Would LOVE your thoughts on this

Are you looking for an integrated CDP (transport+DAC) and use its internal DAC? I'm a classical music listener with 10.000+ CDs in my collection. My favorite CDP is well within your budget, but it is a CD player only (no SACD): Astin Trew AT 3500 + (factory authorized upgraded): https://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/at3500_e.html

Bought this Sony SCD-CE595 at Goodwill for $7. My wife and I did double blind testing using two copies of the same SACD disc A/Bing it with a Marantz SA8004 in the same system. We could not distinguish one player from the other.

Wow, 19K cd's, let's talk soon. Unfortunately they no longer make cd players Hard to say if I want separate or integrated dac option all on how it sounds

I like my Marantz SACD/DVD Player DV 8400, it plays everything I need it to. It also has digital outputs if you want to use another DAC.

The DAC in the Marantz sounds good but I do use a McIntosh D100 digital preamp for all my digital sources. However it doesn't do SACD, so I rune a RCA line to me system for that. I think the McIntosh D150 does SACD & DSD, and these units have a very nice head phone amp in them

THAT is quite a setup, I'm in a tiny apt so have to resort to headphone listening
