I’ll bump this thread because I’ve been frustrated by the Grado dance on my 3009 S2 arm. It was like a belly dancer moving from side to side and that caused the woofers to pump. Experimenting, I added a pea sized ball of blue tak to the headshell right over the SME emblem at the front. That completely made it behave.
I had to move the outrigger counterweight almost completely to the back due to the slight (probably .5g) added to the headshell. I don’t know whether the slight added mass or moving the counterweight and and effect on the bearing end gets the credit but the dance is gone. I confess that the SME is complicated and I may not be getting the most out of it.
This cartridge sounds great on a Jelco 250 arm and really beautiful on the XA.
