New Windows 10 Laptop Junkware

Google "windows 10 registry product key". Product key is different from digital license.

Mirror the entire disk including recovery and backup partitions. Make sure the mirror boots AND is activated.

Between removing a bunch of programs I didn't want, and disabling some more from the start up list, I was able to improve the operating speed considerably.

Zactly what I did w/ my OS 7 Pro laptop and it's worked perfectly well for several years. Then I set about adding s-ware I use, like SPSS, JetAudio, dBpoweramp, utorrent, and a few other tidbits. Thing runs like a champ and is lightning fast.

Last night I used this to run chkdsk on a drive I was going to maybe install, but it's got issues. Afterwards I ended up with 4.62gb of temporary files on the laptop and it won't delete ! Found this on the web.

What's the deal, why is windows such a pain ? I'm attempting to reboot the usb recovery already and getting that sick in the stomach worried somethings going to go wrong feeling I remember. It's sitting on an empty blue screen right now.

Well I turned off the blue screen, powered back up and it's running, so I started disk cleanup and it said there was only 33mb temp files, yet the storage window still shows the above and starting the delete process does nothing but sit. I decided to let the disk cleanup do it's thing and now it seems to be stuck.

I wish I knew where these supposed temporary files are.

29Gb drive - woah, that'd make me angry right there - near uselessness!

It's supposed to be 32gb on board and it has a bay for a drive. This is supposed to be built mainly for schools, I feel for the kids/schools that bought them. I just wanted a very small laptop to use in the truck mostly and for occasional windows stuff. Right now I'm booting it back fresh and taking it back tomorrow.

Took it back and stopped at a couple of pawn shops. Came home with a cheap antique Toshiba that was originally loaded with xp, but has fresh loaded 10 on it, lol.

Ram is only 2gb, I was thinking I would upgrade that no problem, but now reading the specs they say thats the max, so I don't know how it will do when I try to put the program on it. It does have a whole 80gb intel ssd drive and Bluetooth.

Haven't hooked it to the internet yet, almost afraid Microsoft will instantly start loading updates. Could maybe load the program from a drive maybe without having to do that (turn off updates ?). I'm going to play with it.

Loaded the scanner program and got it to Bluetooth to my OBDII in the truck ! Just noticed they gave me the wrong charger, have to go back tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who helped !

I must find a good video on the updates thing before Microsoft starts trying to charge me to use this. lol

OBDII scan tool! I've been thinking about setting up Forscan for my Crown Vic. There are a couple of pesky modules I want to configure. I need some sort of pass through tool like ELM327 or J2534. I also need a crappy laptop...like your Acer.

I picked up crappier (older) Toshiba yesterday cheap that has Windows 10 and bluetooth. It's now able to run Forscan connected to this OBDII bluetooth adapter.

I just ordered this one with a switch for MS and HS

The Toshiba had a fresh clean install, no bloat, and I turned off and cleared all the same stuff you said. Afraid to internet with it because of update problems it might have. lol

Great minds think alike...yours does at least. Looking forward to seeing your tool at work. When I was really into my Crown Vic, I would pull door modules that had the right features turned on and flip them on your know where. Margin was really nice but supply was the problem. Plain modules are plentiful so adding value with Forscan is the opportunity. Yes, yes, it's a get rich slow scheme.

The Acer has the potential to be a great little laptop, felt rugged/well built and has the touch screen (I liked the touch screen). Maybe the other one would have more umph, but I didn't have 100 more bucks for this right now,now I have 150 extra to fix stuff. I'm curious to see what this Forscan can do.

Seems these NB205 Toshibas are going for what I paid and this one has 10 and a ssd, kind of surprised.

Amazon sent me a picture of my package delivered ! That's the "CREACLE OBD2 USB Device ELM327 Compatible Interface with HS-CAN/MS-CAN Switch for Forscan FoCCCus Mazda Ford ELMconfig OBD2 Scanner" sitting on my bench at home.

I took my Crown Victoria to the Ford dealer to have them configure my options. Cost me $100 for one hour of labor, which was likely just a few minutes of computer time. I think Forscan can do DDM and LCM options but it cannot do cruise control, gear ratio, or change speedometer and odometer to metric. Interested to know if that is true.

I took a break, lot's of rain and today got a phone call, had to snake mom's kitchen drain.

I'll definitely let you know what I find out. I was also looking at the Ford setup at Auto Enginuity.

I'm fairly sure you can turn on Daytime Running Lights (makes a CV look bad ass), Dark Mode enable/disable (interior lights police option), Auto-lock and unlock, TPMS tire pressue thresh-hold, and what else?
