I just got the October issue of Stereophile and while flipping thru found an article which immediately held my attention.
New York Tenor Central - page 111 - looks at four present day tenor saxophonists, J.D. Allen, Maria Grand, Jeff Lederer, and Noah Preminger. It is a good read.
Some quotes from the article.
Jeff Lederer: How has anyone survived in New York as a "free-jazz" musician?
Noah Preminger: Every generation has people who don't get any recognition.
Maria Grand: Every day I seek to change the stereo-type that creative, virtuosic, and strong artistic endeavors are typically created by cisgendered men.
