No Joking

Yes I am on Meds. All generic....Klonopin 3mg a day, off label for Anxiety.Paxil for depresson, maximum dose and Abilify to boost the Paxil. All of these also for sleep.
Did these begin after you started taking one of these meds? If so I think there is a good chance that what you are seeing is related to one of them it could even be that one of them is causing a interaction with the others hence the hallucinations.

Whatever you do do not stop taking one or more of them without your doctors knowledge and approval. You need to look someplace else other then here for medical advice very few if any of us are doctors and any advice or opinion given here should be taken with a grain of salt.

That's exactly what my sister said. And the advice from my shrink is to say myself when it happens to say aloud but to myself of course "Mark, these are not real'. She also said that if I'm around family they're to reinforce my word and tell me the same words.

Understood and yes they did. The problem now is tracking which one.
Most Psychotropic medications take a while to take effect and also take a while to safely come off of, I recommend you talk with your doctor that is prescribing these about this because he is the one who knows how to safely get you off the medication or medications and may well have seen this problem with other patients in the past GL to you.

I don't know you so I will speak in generalities. Take or leave as you wish. I am weary of medications and feel that they are a crutch more than a solution. Short term relief is possible but the side effects call for more crutches and more medication. Soon, your body gets addicted to them and you are no longer yourself. I do not wish to diminish your underlying cause for taking medications. However, I am a firm believer that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Lose weight, exercise, and get off the meds. You will be shocked and surprised how a little effort will clear your mind and improve mental function.

People only understand if they have been there. Talk to your Dr (psychiatrist or psychologist). That seems like a lot of Klonopin, I personally couldn't handle that amount, but it's the prescriber that should be told about this now.

You know what. This is one heck of a website and some of the best group of people I've ever come across. Thank you all.

It's been a long 10 years.Beatnix.

Generally speaking - as friendly as the folks on a website can be,
you need a local, direct, support person, such as a psych doctor to work through these things.
We are of limited help at best, and can not be there quickly in a crisis.
I am not wiccan nor a shaman, and tho I do have friends in the pagan community,
and know that smudging with sage can have some benefit,
I truly believe you need stronger support than smudging or web chatting can accomplish.

Lots of good people here trying to help a brother out. I don't have any advice other than my personal experience with drugs taught me that they really mess with your head. They cause all sorts of hallucinations. I had to keep reminding myself it's just my brain doing exercises. It's rather uncomfortable when reality and imagination are intertwined. It can be entertaining for those who know it will wear off. For someone who lives it, I can't imagine the hardships it creates. Hang in there and hopefully your docs will sort it out.

I already see a shrink.

The trouble with psychiatry is that for the past 50 years it has been little more than a branch of the pharmaceutical industry - handing out pills to keep people quiet/minimally functional rather than fixing underlying problems. If you could find a therapist who's an actual psychologist (not just a MSW with a counselling certificate) you might make progress towards not needing the drugs. [Free advice and worth every penny].

Another thought - if you are taking drugs for sleep, are they working? If they just sort of knock you unconscious without providing good quality sleep you could be chronically sleep-deprived to the point of hallucinating.

Hallucinations can happen just from sleep deprivation.
Imagine what psychotropic drugs can do.

If it started after you started the meds, then you already know the cause.
The solution rests with your doctor. Medicine is a science, but far from an exact one. There will likely be trial and error to get you on meds that will work and NOT have these side effects.

The key is telling your Dr. ASAP so they can start the process with you.
Hopefully the solution will present quickly.

I agree too that you should see a doctor as soon as you can. I know a guy who started taking paxil and even though it didn't cause him to hallucinate it did have some very negative effects on him. Any of the three drugs could be doing this to you or maybe a combination of them is doing it.

If at all possible keep somebody by your side at all times until you get this straightened out and I believe that you will get it straightened out. If your doctor can't get things sorted out then find another doctor. I sincerely wish you the best and hope you recover from this soon.

I'm really sorry that you are experiencing these apparently frightening visions. As others have said, *please* go back to your doctor or psychiatrist asap and explain them in more detail—they should be able to recognize that you need better medical management of your symptoms (and if they can't, find another psychiatrist that can). While it may take some time to dial in the right medication, the relief of not having those experiences will hopefully be worth it.

And while we are generally a great crew here on AK, we're certainly not specialists and really shouldn't be giving out medical (or anti-medical) advice, as much as we may think it helpful. Good luck!
