Anybody remember the super-tweeters that were popular some 20-25yrs ago? They claimed to have a frequency range up to 40kHz or so?
I'm curious, if the new SACD and DVD audio formats are capable of delivering frequencies outside the scope of what our conventional speakers can reproduce (and our ears can hear), are these things going to be making a comeback?

They are indeed back.

Sony and Tannoy have new supertweeters on the market.

Richard Sequerra's ribbon tweeters have been available for a long time.

There's probably others too.

I remember those bullet-horn supertweets RS used to sell. Fisher used those drivers in a big speaker system once, too.

AFAIK the driver is still in the Fostex line (they were/are the manufacturer of that one). We had a pair with my dad's old Audio Two 10" 2-way bookshelf speakers...really woke them up as they were a bit soft in the high end. I have no idea who made those or where he got them in the 70's. I remember that system...SX-535 receiver and BIC changer (replaced by a PL-518 TT later)...loved crankin' the Doobies as a kid on that rig... :D
