As a kid back about 1960 while my dad was in the USN I remember Zenith Transoceanic Radios and the Radio show “Hawaii Calls”. “Hawaii Calls” was broadcast on KDKA shortwave and was heard through out the Pacific, and around the world. The show ran from 1935 to 1975. Talking with Veterans from the 1940, and 1950’s the 30 minute live show was listened to on Zenith Transoceanics, R388/URR’s in shore stations across the Pacific, AN/ARC-3 radio sets in B-29’s, C-54’s winging over the Pacific. And countless shortwave radios in homes, and Ships at sea.

This is what opened the show

The albums released by the show and the Hawaii Calls Ochrestra are available on Apple music, Google music, Amazon, etc.

I am rigging a cable to RCA inputs on one of my Zenith Transoceanic 600’s (1955), My RCA-Victor Strato-World 3-BX-671 (1954) and my 1958 ZTO Royal 1000 so I can simulate listening to Hawaii Call’s as I remember it.

Zenith Transoceanic Royal 1000. My example was purchased new by W9YZO (SK) “Doc” Andersen in March of 1959.
