OK, This Is A Weird One....

Are newer replacement dust covers better than the original ones? Has plastic technology improved since then? I ordered a new dust cover off of Ebay for my Thorens TD-125 and was wondering....

I'd think there are new plastics but back then there were different plastics, too. The dust cover on the Luxman PD-441, Kenwood KD-600 and others was a softer plastics based on my opinion, not knowing all the proper plastic descriptive terms to use, but this might be the Rockwell hardness. These and others didn't have the hard plastic sound to them when they were hit, dropped or whatever. These two were also thicker than what is normally seen. The KD-500 also had a softer plastic but it wasn't as thick.

I would think you could talk to your new dust cover maker and see if there are options to get what you want.
