Olympus D-425 suddenly lost zoom capability

I have an Olympus digital camera model D-425. It's around 10 years old and it's never given me any trouble. The other day I went to use it and it was completely dead. I figured I must have accidentally forgot to turn it off and it killed the battery. I put new batteries in and it powered up and I can take pictures but the zoom no longer works.

Any suggestions?

The D425 has "digital zoom" which isn't really zoom, it is simply cropping into the image. If it still works and takes ok photos I would crop (zoom) on the computer.

Yes. Tried that. I opened the camera up and sprayed contact cleaner on the inside of the zoom toggle. Didn't help.
