Paypal Requesting SSN...Phishing or Real?

Phish.

I got a damn fine looking note from "Discover" card requesting account update info due to "legal requirements".
:bs:

ask for their credit card number and security code to prove they are who they say they are .
or stop right there and hover over any links in the email and check the url ..
in any case it is a scam for sure .

I am going to leave it alone. I did a google search on this and there appears to be a thresh hold for reporting to IRS. I am no where close to that. The less personal info out there, the better, IMO.

Paypal does like to get info from people, so they like to ask for stuff like that. The threshold is $20k gross in sales PLUS at least 200 total payments received. So if hypothetically you received 199 payments of $1000 each they wouldn't have issues, but once you hit 200 sales and $20k they send you a 1099K or whatever.

SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phishing email. Never give anything to anyone over email unless you are 110% sure it is legit.

And if you have a question about Paypal, call them. Say "Suspicous Email" to the robot and they'll get you to whoever you need. They are some what knowledgeable.
