It depends on the model. Dont forget that Marantz CDP's were made by philips as well. The early top loader that goes for insane $$$ was badged Philips, Magnavox and Marantz. I have a Realistic CD6000 cartridge deck that was sold under Marantz, Philips and Magnavox as well. Same control and face plate, just didferent model numbers on the front.

For me, the biggies are: Does it have a CDM Swing arm transport? Is it made anywhere but Funai? For Americans most of the best Philips based players were Magnavox, Sylvania, or Marantz on native brands. Philips had a few very limited market high end players. When the CDM era ended, the quality of build and sound declined, they got cheapened and outsourced.
