I know that these are farily rare so I thought I would post some pics. They were both made in 1978. The 317P speakers were sold by Custom Hi-Fi. They have a 152W woofer. The 417R are a more top of the line speaker. They have a 154W woofer, MF-61 mid. and same tweeters as the 317P. They both have a horn on the back. Crossover frequencies for the 317P are 2,000Hz and 3,500 hz. The 417R x-overs are 250Hz, 2,000 Hz and 3,500 Hz. The tweeters on the left side are a horn with phase plug. The tweeters on the right are a phenolic dome. Foster made these for Cerwin-Vega. I like the sound of the 417R's better. Mids are much better.

I have a pair of the 317p.Only know of one other AK member with them.Mine have issues.Need a refoam and have been running a Mach two woofer in the .One of the front tweeter on both sides does not work.I think it is in the crossover.Tell how do you like these?I ask because mine have not been restored to original yet.I posted a pic of mine awhile back somewhere in this forum.

It looks like the cabs were of higher quality then as opposed to the speakers made in the 80's on up. They appear to be real veneer??

Hey Dstarr,

1st of all..., sorry to dredge up an old post but I just did a search on the 417R's and found you! Can you re-post your pix for me??

Finally... somebody that has some 417R's!! I'll try to post mine as well. Original owner, Purchased in Idaho - moved to Oregon where the foam got trashed (humidity?). Found a great place in Portland that re-foamed 'em. They did a great job - sound good as ever! Back in Idaho now. I don't care what others say about CV's... I can play anything from Rock to Classical and it all sounds great!

By the way... Have 'em hooked up to a G-8000 that I also bought new and still looks like it. Bought at the same time I got the speakers. All 1976-78 vintage..., if I recall correctly.

finally got a pair of 317p's nice all wood cabs. gonna refoam them. gonna try them on my mint marantz 2325 for sound or my Sansui g 7000. are these what they call the Hard Rockers?. also anyone know of paperwork or manuals where to get? ...thanks mhinsda

I have the 217r's, recapped/new surrounds/deoxit/Howards/ (being they weigh 80lbs.) they are in the garage going to waste!

There is very little info on these speakers. They are the Hardrockers.

I refoamed my CV 317p's. all good. wish there was more info on them. do the controls on the back control just the front tweeters/horn?. here are a couple of pics....

HARDROCKERS..... What a lucky man to have both of the 15's from the hardrockers. I have 4 of the 417R's little brothers the 212R.I would give up my U351s and my AT15s that I LOVE, for yours in a heart beat. I could only imagine how my pioneer SX 1250 could piss off the neighbors off more than I already do.Truly great sets of CV's Rock on brother.

Um, right. Drink alot, do you?
Not since my 4 best friends died drunk driving at age 16 but thank you for asking ... On a less serious note, I seriously have not heard of anyone who has these but i have not had time to do much searching on the forum lately so maybe you are right and there are a ton of 212R's floating around
