Hello all.
First off, thanks to all the contributors here on the site. I have spent many a late night hour here researching most of my audio gear purchases. Its a great outlet for people with a passion for great music, and great sound.
Was hoping anyone with a little knowledge of the Pioneer 727 could nudge me in the right direction with troubleshooting my favorite receiver. I feel selfish asking for help contributed nothing to this point.
Normally, I would just move on and listen to another of my stereo's, but this Pioneer holds sentimental value, and sounds better to me than any of my other gear. I have been spending hours online trying to get familiar with what it may take to get it diagnosed and fixed.
The issue i am having is that the receiver will function and sound great for a few minutes, followed by a hellish crackle pop. I feared my novas would be damaged.Thankfully not. I had since put the stereo in storage, brought it back in the house, cleaned all the pots (which was hell to get at) , fired it up, and it was playing beautifully! I thought my pot cleaning had solved the problem, then after 1.5 hours,,the crackle pop came back. My heart broke.
So i found these threads, and more and studied them.

Im sort of guessing (need guidance) that replacing the 6 transistors on the head amp unit (w21-002b)
Transitors 2sc458 might be the best place to start?
I THINK i have located the proper replacement for 2sc458, but have never ordered transistors before. It sort of looks like the pins are in a different configuration than the originals in there now?
It looks like the replacement (ksc1845) is not available. However ksc1845FTA IS available. The prongs look different?
https://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=KSC1845
I have been inside this receiver before to change the burnt out lamps, so im familiar with it to a point. I HAVE after researching found the head amp unit, and located the transistors.
I am admittedly a newbie to this, but this is my favorite receiver above all others, and I want to save her. If price were no option I would send her out for professional repair, but unfortunately, i live in a town of under 2k people, and shipping it for repair is too costly for me to handle right now.
If anyone is familiar with this issue, and may shed some guidance I would be much obliged! I wish i could pay you for your time, but the best I can do is try to send some positive karma your way.
Happiest Holidays to all!
