Pioneer Component Serial Numbers

Pioneer Serial Number Age Indicator

Hi all, I did some research ages ago into the first two letters and found that they both denote the year/month of when the unit was made. I did post this forum about this about 2 years ago, am just wondering since there is now a database for Pioneer serials numbers, whether this finding might create some interest. :)

Here is what I wrote and my findings :

Cheers

The 3 is REALLY faint.
Serial numbers and VIN codes are kind of neat if you know how to decode them.
You can also tell the year of your motor vehicle by looking at the tenth digit of the VIN number. This works from 1980 to the present.
Code Year
A 1980
B 1981
C 1982
D 1983
E 1984

V 1997
W 1998

9 2009
In 2010, they will start over with 'A' again.
There can be other info in the VIN also, but I won't cover that in a stereo forum!

Wow, there really was a Y2K bug in the year 2000 :D

Another (apparently) uncommon addition to my collection:

SX-410 - Serial Number: OE 18517

which thus makes it a May, 1968 model.

Yes, that's right, 8900. It's a domestic Nippon model — maybe = SA-8500 export. Yummmy!

Does it look like this:

Sorry Doc, yer pic/graphic is not coming up on the page — just a question mark. Your sticky data base says it's an SA-8500 — 60 watts.

Hi Doc: The graphic finally came up. Yes, it looks exactly the same. Mine is minus the veneer. And of course, it is rigged for 100 VAC at 50/60 Hz. (Apart for recapping as I write). THANKS!
