Pioneer S-70 Stylus Replacement

Pioneer PL-S70

My Pioneer S-70 is in dire need of a replacement cartridge/stylus. It's currently packed with an original Pioneer PN-220 cartridge that looks exactly like this one:

I would prefer to upgrade and am welcome to suggestions.

If not, it looks like Needle Doctor is selling an identical one at http://www.needledoctor.com/Pioneer-PN220-Stylus_2

Would this be a good purchase? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Are you referring to the Pioneer PL-S70 turn table? :scratch2:

For the Pioneer PL-S70 turn table, try the Ortofon OM 10 cartridge or the Shure M97xE.

Yes, I did mean the Pioneer PL-S70 turn table. Thanks, Balifly!

I've been meaning to buy a Shure for quite some time, but they are often out of my price range. Although the Shure you linked to is tempting, it does not ship to Ottawa, Canada.

I am thinking of trying an Audio Technica. Is there anything I should look out for when making my purchase? I am worried about buying a cartridge that would not fit my Pioneer PL-S70.

You may want an upgrade stylus for the Pioneer PN-220 cartridge for now.

This one is an elliptical instead of the conical. :thmbsp:

The Pioneer PN-220 looks like a re badge Audio Technica AT 95xx cartridge.

A bit too low compliant for the light tone arm of the turn table.

See if you can find the Ortofon OM 10 locally. :scratch2:
