One of today's finest singers I reckon. If you get a chance to see him live GO. He'll put you in a trance. This is a beautifully produced album to show your system off too.

Salif Keita - M'Bemba [Universal]

I recently picked up these two CDs from Mali, thought to be the birthplace of American blues via the slave trade. Excellent sound quality and material.

This girl is very good, and very popular in Africa a contemporary singer but still her music is very much African, she does sing one or two songs on this ablum in English.

It is nothing like the old National Geographic movies of the Jungle Drums.
But this is actually a pretty interesting LP, and recorded quite well considering the logistics of it all, no studio near by!

Conjunto Estrellas Africanas de Dexter Johnson - volume 1

Born Nigerian, Dexter Johnson made his fortune in Senegal,
he was one of the founders of the legendary Star Band. They
played in several clubs in 60's Dakar. After that Johnson
moved to Abidjan where he worked for the Record label
Disco Stock. This is one of the lp's he made there.
With Cuban violin player Alfredo Delafe and singer
Raymond Fernandez they formed 'Estrellas Africanas'.
Dexter Johnson who later also worked with Manu
Dibango and Monte Adentro was a monument of
African music and died in 1977.

A couple of more CDs I picked up that I've been enjoying. Found both at GW.
