Poway Symphony Orchestra - Live Recordings free d/l's, safe

Sam @c1ferrari

Look around for the mics, and follow the cables. I've been setting up at first row center, so far, but, I might try the balcony rail for the next recording. So if you don't see me down front, look towards the balcony rail, center.

Mike, @mfrench

Do you know (or able to divulge) what's on the "Orchestral Favorites" program in March, 2017?
Will you be doing a remote on this date? :)

Thanks,

Sam

OK,... I jst went to their site, and found this set list posted:

4 PM

"Orchestral Favorites"
Felix Mendelssohn, Hebrides Overture "Fingal's Cave", Op. 26

Franz Schubert, Symphony No. 8 in B minor "Unfinished", D. 759

Ludwig van Beethoven. Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67

What's a Po weigh?
Oh, about three tons.

Where's a Po go?
Anywhere it wants to.

(ba dump dump ... rimshot!) <G>

Excellent stuff. Thanx and a tip o' the hat for the 24 bit zip package too!

You bet! I hope that you enjoy!
I'm going to ramp up the sampling/bit rate this time, and go large; 2496. Or maybe 24-88.2 (due to rendering ease for CD for the conductor). I've also been self-debating going up and back to the balcony front row center, for a more spacious capture. I'd also like to give the videographer a break, as I've been messing with his sight lines for his shots.

Just make sure you end up where you can enjoy the live performance yourself. ;-}

(and next time, bring some pacifiers and hand them out as needed to keep the kids quiet) <G>

Not a hijack, just payback ... try this on for size ... here's my home town orchestra. No credits, but I'm pretty sure that's Richard Freire as guest pianist. I know he did a couple mixed masters concerts with GRSO about that time.

** Might make for a killer stickie (not this one). Post up our favorite freebees. Archive.Org especially is just an amazing source of quality recordings. Pretty much anything media as well, especially with the Smithsonian moving in. Only caveat ... if you see something you like, grab it. Everything there IS open source, but groups have been known to change their minds and pull the music. I've gotten a few over time that have mysteriously disappeared ... neener neener ... <G>

@c1ferrari

An AK meeting was a reality yesterday afternoon. I got to meet, Sam, c1ferrari, and his lovely wife, yesterday, at the latest Poway Symph. Orch. concert.
Good folk - Good show. Thanks again for coming out!

OK,.... here you go.
There are two recordings offered.
One is the control copy from the stage-lip. This one is a mix of Senn. MKE2002 omnidirectional as an 8" Baffled Omni stereo pair, and, Line Audio CM3 sub-cardioids as DIN stereo 20cm spaced with a 90º combined off axis response (each mic toed-out 45º left and 45º right and 20cm apart at the capsule center). The two sources were captured a two two channel stereo recordings.
A simple 1:1 overlay of the two stereo recordings was done via Reaper
DSCN3415.jpg

Than another was run from the balcony face wall, with the mics spaced 8' apart over center. The mics were taped tight to the wall face in an attempt to capture the Boundary Layer Effect, BLE, which boosts presence by a factor of up to 3dB. THis technique also reduces second plus wave "reflected" reverberation.
This was done with DPA 4060 miniature omnidirectional pair/ DPA MMA6000 mic pre -> Roland R09HR 24.48
This was my first time at this depth in this room. I am quite impressed by how it sounds. Nice room!

There's no such thing as having TOO many versions of Beethoven's symphonies.

This ensemble plays a lot of Beethoven, thats for sure.
Its Beethovens Fifth, which is represented by a "V" in Roman numerals. A "V" in Morse Code is ..._ (dot dot dot dah)
There is some trivia to start your day.

How did I not know this? Or did I, and I've forgotten?

Either way, I'm smarter now than when I woke up!

My pleasure, BBG.

I've added the discrete, stage-lip center, Line Audio CM3 stereo tracks.
When I got home after the show, I threw the stage-lip tracks together into a four mic mix. I sent that mix to the videographer, who said it sounded great. He sent the video to the musical director who liked the mix. So I assumed it was all OK, tracked it, and posted it. Then I began my own critical listening.
I thought that the four mic mix was OK. But I thought that it might be better if I isolated the CM3 stereo track. The CM3 tracks were isolated and divided; then edited to the musical content only, no tuning, house announcement or preambles. By doing this, I was able to get the musical content to one CD for the orchestra, and it makes for a nice listening copy.
/rambling....
Here are the Line Audio CM3 tracks as a Music Only Edit (m.o.edit):

And, finally, the last of the comparative two channel stereo recordings....
You guys are going to think that I'm a nut!

These are the links to the Sennheiser MKE2002 8" baffled omnidirectional pair, two channel stereo recording, from the stage-lip center.
This stereo recording was done immediately below the Line Audio CM3 pair, same stage-lip mic stand, just a few inches lower..

This recording has a substantial amount of binaural information captured. It is a recording done via an 8" baffle between the mics, that has many of the same attributes that a head woud have. It is in fact a variation on binaural recording, done with the intention of making the recording more speaker friendly.
This one is a really nice headphone llistening experience.

OK,.... last show of season coming next sunday.

This is my audio feed, applied in post edit. It is an overlay of two, two channel stereo recordings, 1:1 mix of both. Its not my favorite of the sources of this show, but it sounds nice and is well synched to the video.

Totally affordable tickets. Great sounding hall!
Matinee hours, so plenty of time for after show dinner, etc.
