Poway Symphony Orchestra - Live Recordings free d/l's, safe

OK,.... here is the recording.
Once again,.... these are authorized, safe, legal downloads. No fear the download.

This is an overlay of two, two channel stereo recordings, that I did. One is with a pair of omnidirectional mics, DPA 4060 miniature omni pair, as baffled omni stereo. The other is a directional stereo pair, Line Audio CM3 sub-cardioid pair, as wide-DIN stereo, apprx. like this \___/ with 25cm between the points, and angled outward at 45º each. Both mic sets on the same stand, in close proximity. From 2nd row center.

My critiquing (which is always way too soon)....

Ambient room noise. This was from the house air conditioning system.
As you well know ( @bhunter ) its been quite warm all week; 90's all week, inland. Sunday was no different. Minutes before show time, the AC kicked in, and turned a nice sounding room into a resonant box.
So I was torn between trying a work around in editing; I tried scanning a quiet bit just before the start of a song, and removing it with software. Too much damage. Don't save changes.
Then I tried a High Pass Filter, and while it did sound nice, I felt the bottom end was left vacant; hints of bottom end, but, I know what was missing. Too much damage. Don't save changes.

So, there is HVAC noise present. Its not so bad with speaker playback, but, is a bit annoying in headphone playback. Its there. My specialty is capturing whole room ambient sound, and there is an HVAC system in the mix.

Pet peeve mini-rant: So many great concert halls are plagued by this very thing. They rave how great their hall sounds, and not hear this 100hz whump that is far more broad frequency spectrum (40hz->200hz). Rolls eyes.
/rant

continuing....
The choir.
I wanted to be right there in front of them, on-stage. But, the choir director didn't want a mic stand behind her.
The house techs didn't want me there either, as they had a stage change to do at intermission; removing choir risers, and relocating them for horns.
Then the choir director wanted to be through the PA system, as she felt they couldn't compete with the orchestra. So, the house tech set four microphones up; which caused me to have to step out into the audience area an additional 10', to bring the center array into focus. My typical set up spot is not in the impact zonre of the PA system, as they don't use it at most shows. Then the house didn't use the mics to the PA, after all.
So, I'm way out in left field for the choir, due to all of the confusion.

I have just now received a link to the video of the 2017-05-21 concert. The orchestra wants to share this with people, along wth the audio recordings.
This is the resulting video, with my audio overlay, by George Sullivan of OldHarborVideo, San Diego.
You can see my audio rig at the stage lip in the opening moments, and throughout. I try to fly low, to keep the vid lines as clean as possible, while still running high enough to get a clear aural view.

Sunday, November 19, 2017, 4 PM

Both of these masterpieces were composed between 1893 and 1895 while Dvořák was director of the American Conservatory of Music in New York City.

Antonin Dvořák, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178.
Antonin Dvořák, Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104, B 191. Soloist: Daniel Grab, Principal Cellist.

The Poway Symphony Orchestra's own Daniel Grab will be the soloist in this major concerto.

I'll be at the end of the mic cables. I'd love to do the meet and greet thing.

So, the pre-show spamming period is over. We now move onto the music.

I just sent this early file set out to the maestro and soloist.
It is a rendering of two, two channel stereo recordings (four mics) mixed into a two channel stereo track; then edited and split into tracks.
There are two formats, at present: 2448flac, and, 1644wav
The wav files are intended for the less technically adept in the orchestra. If folk want the 24bit stuff, I'm assuming they're capable of dealing with the FLAC format.

So, for now, this is the earliest upload of the recording. They'll all eventually get uploaded to the Live Music Archive Collection folder. I'll link to those as the process moves on.
I hope that you'll enjoy! It was a good show.

matrix_1644_wav: https://archive.org/details/pso2017-11-19.matrix.1644

The mic array looks like it is balancing the maestros music stand on top of it. It is a centered stereo pair spaced at 20cm apart, and a wider stereo pair at 36" apart.
I was actually out at 2nd row, center.

OK,... I beg a change of the information in the text file, if you download from these the now gone WeTransfer links.

At 1am, when I set up the song list / tech info file, this abstract form of counting made sense; less so now.

I counted in the abstract form of: t.01, t.02, t.03, t.04, t.06
Please correct to: t.01, t.02, t.03, t.04, t.05

@I LIKE MUSIC

My pleasure!

This is the last source for this concert. It is another minimalist two channel stereo recording, mastered at 24.48, w/ rendering to 16.44. The only edit was a slight gain boost overall.
This is the DPA4060 spaced miniature omnidirectional pair, spaced 36"+ apart (not measured). These are the wider flanking mics on the same stand as the cm3 pair.
The omnidirectional most noteable characteristic is the abliity to capture the hall in its entirety, and, a deeper bass response. But, if there is anything glaring, such as audience noise, air conditioning noise (fortunately off for this show), the omnis will catch it in all of its glory.

36" spaced omni pair:

Come on out, SD/OC/RC/SBC folks. I'd love to meet and greet! ... just follow the mic cables.

Ludwig van Beethoven, Leonore Overture No. 3

George Enescu, Romanian Rhapsody No. 2

Ludwig van Beethoven, Symphony No. 4

Saturday, May 19, 2018, 7 PM

Program to be announced.

All concerts are held at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road, Poway.

Admission is $17 for adults, $14 for seniors (60+), and $12 for students (12-24).

Thank you for making these reference grade fine recordings available to the group, tho' I can't do anything with them here. I've heard some of your previous DVD-A hard copies and can highly recommend anything you record.

OK,.... this is what the audio gods allowed me to take out of this concert.

DSCN4777.jpg

backstory,... in brief:
Arrive two hours before show; first in hall; set up and ready before orchestra rehearsal. Everything is set up, and sound checked; all systems a total go.
Three rigs set up:
1) Center stereo pair at stage-lip
2) Wide spaced flanking omnis split 12' across center, to support center stereo pair, or, as discrete stereo pair.
3) Binaural head at 2nd row center, seated in audience perspective.

Results:
1) Bass motor boating at 40hz in both channels, with one channel devoted exclusively to this motor boating noise, the other had some music below the motor boating.
2) somehow the tape gods allowed this pair, cleanly.
3) Binaural only recorded to left channel, despite showing both channels w/ levels.

The wide spaced omni pair is the only pair of tracks that came out of the six captured.
It is not what I would typically want to present. But in this instance, it is all that I can present.

** Line Audio tracks had weird things happening, and were disposed of. The left tracks was pulsing thumps, like a bass motor boating, no music. The right track had music, and pulsing thumps. This made the tracks useless, and they were trashed.
*** Sennheiser MKE2002 -> only recorded to left track, despite showing levels on both tracks.
The Taping Gods didn’t allow much of this show to be recorded.

Sennheiser MKE2002 Artificial Head Binaural Stereo Microphone Kit “Gude Head” -> Edirol R09HR 2496 clamped to handrail
DPA4060 as wide-spaced pair, at 12’+ spacing as spaced boundary layer pair taped to balcony face wall
Line Audio CM3 sub-cardioid stereo pair as wide modified-NOS stereo 35cm at 70º, clamped top handrail
Tacam DR70D at 2496

All recordings from first row center, balcony; clamped to balcony handrail, and, 4060 pair taped tight to hard face of drywall balcony face.

The resulting Four-Mic Mix “matrix” is a simple 1:1 mix of all four DR70D mono tracks, via Reaper 4.77 software.

This was the highlight for me, a short harp solo by an amazing 12 y.o. young lady who was simply amazing on the harp.
The house exploded when she finished!
