Powered subwoofer equilization

I have a JBL powered subwoofer that uses a digital amplifier. The amp has died. I am wondered if , IN GENERAL, powered subwoofers have some bass boost or other equilization built in or is the amp flat? I may take it apart and bypass the amp, making it a passive unit.

I would say that most lower cost subs do not do any sort of equalization. Assuming it's not some bizarre impedance (for example, the subwoofers in the Definitive BP2000s are apparently 75Ω), you should be able to use a generic plate amp or your own power amp (assuming you have another way to cross over to them, such as the sub output on a HT receiver).
