Will it do any damage to the fisher 500-c to power up with power strip switch, instead of switch on receiver?

It'll be fine, as long as you CHECK the VOLUME control on the 500 1st!!!! Don't want it blareing FULL BLAST from the Git-Go.

Yup, what everybody said.

There are a lot of owners of Fisher tube receivers with on/off switches that work just fine, but they choose to use a power strip just to save wear & tear on the switch.

It'll be fine, just make sure the volume is down.

My power switch is fine, but after reading this, I am now powering it up with a power strip. No need to break a $50 part, right?

There are many ways to do this. I put a thermister on one leg of the primary transformer in series with the AC input cord. The problem with the switches is that an arc on initial turn-on shortens switch life.
