Quad Receivers

I know that this may sound like a stupid question, but do quad receivers sound as good when listening in 2-channel mode, as regular 2-channel receivers?

my Marantz 4140 sounds just as good to me as my other 2 channel marantz's when ive tried it in 2 channel. i definitely have ones i like better like my model 18 but i think generally speaking it sounds as good as a 2 channel

To me, the 'fun' of a quad receiver or amp is four channels. If you are only going to use it in 2 channel mode, then a 2 channel rig is probably the less complicated choice.
