Radio Shack AF-15D Mono Tube Amp - Punchy Little Amp

Picked up this little amp today. I don't have pictures yet, but it had the manual
with so I scaned the front and schematic. It had some work done on it. New
spring type speaker terminals (it can run three speakers) and some cap work.
I hooked it up to a KLH model 32 I had and put on the mono Revolver from the
Beatles mono box set. What a punchy big sound from this amp. It is 18w and
less than 1% THD. I'm assuming that since the manual was printed in Japan
that it was made there. Has anyone seen on of these?

Those small Realistic amps go for a lot of money on eBay. Some of them close to the original price. Are they that good?

Some may laugh, but hooked up to a vintage speaker like my KLH 32 it sounds really good. It surprised me. I bought it to play 78s and tried it with the mono Revolver cd.
Like I said it sounds a lot better than I expected.

I'm not laughing at all; look what's in my living room at the moment...

(these are a little bit older than the titular AF-15D)

mhardy6647 - I saw a pair of those at the show I was at. They were next to the table
where I bought mine. One of the two might have been a little older version. It had a
large pilot light on the right front. I like mine and I bet yours sounds great.

The original version of those amps used an octal driver/phase splitter (maybe a 6SN7?) and was definitely Grommes-made. These (with two 12AX7s) might even have been Japanese-made; not sure (based on perusal of www.radioshackcatalogs.com ).

The ones in my previous post were acquired at the NEARC antique radio fleamarket/swap meet a coupla weeks ago...

I just found my little amp in the 1967 catalog. $39.99 for the amp then. Quite a bargen
considering the sound it produces.
