RCA plug speaker wire question

I have a little realistic receiver that only has rca plugins for speakers. Can I splice a rca plug onto the end of a regular piece of speaker wire? How do I know which wire in the rca is +/-? Is the + male pin that sticks out the positive? Or is it the outer collar?

Thanks

I had a little fun awhile back and decided to use rca arrays as patch panels. Take an old tv , lots of em left on the street , and pull the rca arrays off the back , then do all your soldering to the backs of the female connectors. So no stripping of the cable. All the beefy rca cables now gathering dust need not go to waste because technology has moved on.

don't splice the wires. get some solder on rca connectors.
