Realistic is usable.

Here is my garage setup. I also have a ST-82 20wpc sitting on a shelf waiting for a recap from the same line of equipment.

My school room mate had Optimus 5 speakers. I remember them as really good. Nobody called him out with his speakers.

I liked the Optimus speaker line. The 1B's sound good and with a few crossover tweeks, even better. RS did have some nice receivers in the 70's. I just never got into receivers for whatever reason. I only own two. The ST82 that came free with the 2B speakers, and a very nice Pioneer SX 780 I found at Goodwill for $13 The 780 will get recapped along with recomended updates and go to my youngest son. The ST-82 I planned on recapping and passing on to someone.

STA-120B --------- 74 ---------- 40 ---------- 300
STA-225 ----------- 75 ---------- 50 ---------- 400
STA-250 --------- 75 ------- ---- 44 -------- 320
QTA-790----------- 74-------- 36x4---it says--- 600
STA-90 ----------- 76 ----------- 44 ---------- 360
STA-2000&D ----- 77 ---------- 75 ---------- 500
STA-235&B ------- 77 --------- 55 ----------- 400
STA-2100&D ------ 79 ----------- 120 ---------- 600
STA-2200 --------- 80 ----------- 60 ------------ 600
STA-240 ----------- 80 ----------- 60 ------------ 430
STA-95 ------------ 80 ----------- 45 --------------- 400

I like the Foster's with the "Auto-Magic" tuners. That would be the STA-225, STA-235&B, and the STA-240.

The little TM-1000 I posted has auto magic. The meter turns blue and two dots on the indicator needle turns red in stereo.

Speaking of Radio Shack, ran across this Realistic branded LP while listening tonight. Interesting "Direct to Disc" concept. RS had some interesting ideas over the years that didn't quite catch on. This LP just screams Radio Shack. They tout all of this high tech extravagance on the jacket and then press it in what has to be the thinnest possible vinyl I have EVER run across in my collection.

Add the STA-960-50w-1980? Newer version of the beautiful STA-95.
STA-180-60w-1972-$600. Semi rare and heavy duty.

Is it really floppy? During the oil crises in the 70's a different formula was tried. They were thin and floppy and we're passed off as being better sounding and longer lasting than the standard record.

Mine are not floppy at all and all D2D Albums(Sheffields etal) were just that superior sounding and mine at 40-50 yrs old still are in great shape especially when played on a decent TT:)

I put a clean 780 on cl last week for $300 and was a little surprised today when someone scheduled a pickup for friday. Good unit for sure.

I have a 50 watt Sylvania CR-2743 made by Sylvania. I have it as a representative of Sylvania because they actually made it.
It works and sounds good and the front is well made. However it is difficult to open up for service and parts of it are divorced from the chassis and screwed to the inside of the wood cabinet, such as the main power supply. Much like their consoles right?
My opinion of it is not very good.
I believe the 1975 Realistic STA-250 was made by Sylvania for Radio Shack with no changes from the CR-2743 other than the model name.
What I'm saying is I don't think the STA-250 was a good example of what the Shack could get to market.
Shack run it one year, Sylvania for three.

Because it said Realistic. Who new? I don't have my hopes up for finding one.

Not at all. I respect the Realistic brand. I have had Mach Ones, Nova 10, Move 8b, Sta-95, Sts-2000d...etc.

And in my setup....

I didn't give Realistic much thought until recently. Know I'm trying to see if their receivers were as good as the other brands. Of which I have about two dozen.
